An American hip hop artist & producer hailing from Columbus, Ms born Bobby R. Colvin Jr. November 19th 1984. He came up in a hip hop free house hold. Instead his mother & father devoted christians, with his father being a minitster, listened to only gospel music & did not support the interest in secular music.
At a young age he excelled as an athlete, participating in any sport he could. That athletic excellence would eventually provide him access to college, on a football scholarship. His athletic skills weren't the only thing he carried throughout his years of youth, at a young age his musical abilities were evident, learning very quickly how to use any instrument with in his grasp.
It was while spending time at his grandparents home he was exposed to blues, and given free range to listen to his personal choice of music, hip hop. Every Saturday day morning his grandfather would turn to his favorite blues radio station listening until about noon. The one song he speaks of hearing Saturday morning, "Mom's Apple Pie" by Tyrone Davis. After noon, his grandfather would usually turn off the radio & Soufside would use a pair of headphones from a tape player that his parents purchased to use the radio to listen to the local Columbus station 103.9 WACR or Birmingham 95.7 which signal was sometimes faint to listen to hip hop & record tapes of the show on tapes which he got from his uncle's old music collection tucked away in his closet. This is where he start developing his love for Hip Hop & R&B. By the age 11 he would use every opportunity possible, to sneak and listen to any Hip Hop that was available. He states Thuggish Ruggish Bone to be the first song he ever remembered word for word.
In his late highschool years after seeing child neighborhood friends Carlos Hill & Alan Harrison perform with a local group called the big shots he began playing around with rhymes. You could catch him and other classmates making beats on desk and freestyling or rapping verses they had written the night before, notably "Tikko" another well known artist from the same town, who is commonly seen in collaboration or performing with Soufside currently.
By his senior year in highschool, Soufside would find himself behind the microphone of a local producer's home studio to participate in a collaboration. This day would plant the seed that continued to grow from that day, to the artist & producer known as Soufside today.
Soufside has managed to gain much attention utilizing the musical influences from his childhood, combining them with the sounds of today & heavily blues influenced tales of Mississippi living. Builing his audience through the underground avenues via mixtapes & internet radio throughout the past few years, he is now embarking upon a mission to take that success to a national & international success.
Coming from a city & state where they say you either go to college or prison, Soufside managed to maneuver through statistical ranks & exceed expectations of anyone with artistic aspirations from his city, with the last individual to have a major national impact through artistic works being playwright Tennessee Williams.
Soufside is currently signed to Mississippi based Independent label 35*35 Entertainment, the same label responsible for spawning the hit "Inside Peanutbutter Outside Jelly" by J-Money & Cadillac Don. After finding success on the charts with his recent singles, he is looking to drop a new EP titled "Look What I Did" this year, featuring artist like Bun B, Snootie Wild, Gorilla Zoe, and more.
